Bridges Gave Up Marijuana For Movie Role

2 September 2008 12:04 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Jeff Bridges had to force himself to stop smoking marijuana on the set of stoner classic The Big Lebowski so he could think clearly.

The 58-year-old starred as pot-loving Jeffrey Lebowski in the 1998 box-office smash.

And though he admits he hasn't permanently kicked the habit, Bridges insists his character's penchant for pot was all acting.

He says, "I wanted to have a clear head (for the role)," adding, "Usually around Christmas time is when the harvest comes in, and somebody will say, 'Hey! Look what I got!'"

The Big Lebowski is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year and to celebrate, Rolling Stone sat down with stars Jeff Bridges, Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julianne Moore to talk about the movie and its cultural impact. Here are some excerpts from the story: Jeff Bridges - "[The Dude] should be president!" Philip Seymour Hoffman - "The Dude abides, and I think that's something people really yearn for, to be able to live their life like that....

'Ghostbusters' Named Top Comedy of the Past 25 Years

28 August 2008 12:51 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Entertainment Weekly has named the best comedies of the past 25 years, so you know what that means: Your opinion doesn't count for squat, even to yourself.

No, seriously, shut the eff up - Entertainment Weekly has spoken. These are the top 25 comedies of the past quarter century. So it is written, so it shall be done.

All kidding aside, it's a pretty good list, with the exception of Beverly Hills Cop being rated so high. It's not funnier than Spinal Tap. Sorry. It's just not. Speaking of the Tap, Christopher Guest is the King of Comedy, with his co-starring role in that film joining two of his directorial efforts - Waiting For Guffman (#13) and Best In Show (#20) - on the countdown.

Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn both placed two films on the list, with There's Something About Mary hitting number seven. Curiously, Tropic Thunder made the top 20. I loved that movie,

"Burn After Reading", the latest gem from the genius Coen brothers', will highlight Day 1 at the Venice Film Festival, which opens Wednesday. Joel and Ethan Coen's "Burn After Reading" (their follow-up to Oscar winner "No Country for Old Men") will open the 65th edition of the event with a screening that will follow the festival's traditional gala opening ceremony. Stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton are all expected to be on hand to lend starpower to the Lido's well-worn red carpet. I can't imagine a better way to open Any event than with a new Coen brothers film!! I have such high hopes for "Burn After Reading", especially with the success of so many of their past films! ::Featured Events At The Alamo Ritz::

- Tropic Thunder -

: Alamo Ritz : Opens Tues, Aug 11 :

In this colossal clash of A-list titans, Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. (in black face!) are three actors making the "most expensive war movie of all time." But after a military consultant played by a particularly sinister Nick Nolte suggests they put these primadonnas in the shit, they wind up amidst real jungle warfare...except they think it's all just movie magic.

- Master Pancake Theater presents Jurassic Park -

: Alamo Ritz : Sat : Aug 2 :

Ok, let's be honest: we know we're supposed to be mocking Bad movies and Jurassic Park is mostly pretty Good, but we've discovered that when people are really scared it makes them laugh harder at our jokes. Also, we really wanted to play the drinking game with a group of 150 folks shouting "Hello,

Herbal Goodness

The bloodshot, grin-wrinkled eyes of Seth Rogen and James Franco have been dopily gazing out from posters all over town lately. The pair star in Friday's "Pineapple Express," a caper built on the stoner vibe present in many of writer-producer Judd Apatow's comedies. But "Pineapple" is hardly the first film distinguished (or improved) by an appreciation of the sinister smoke. Here are a few classics renowned for going one toke over the line.

No More 'Dude' For Scott

8 June 2008 3:58 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

American Pie star Seann William Scott has been forced to erase the word 'dude' from his vocabulary after naming his new Labrador puppy after Jeff Bridges' character in The Big Lebowski.

The actor quickly realised that his overuse of the word is confusing his pet and so he has pledged not to use it any more.

He explains, "I got a puppy, my first dog; he's a yellow Lab. Everybody said it was gonna be a lot of work but I had no idea.

"I named him Dude from The Big Lebowski and now I'm forced not to call my friends 'Dude' anymore, because I'll be saying to my friends, 'Hey Dude, don't drink any more beer,' and my dog's looking at me like, 'I'm not drinking beer.'"

Last Exit to Film Geekdom

13 May 2008 6:48 PM, PDT | From MovieMaker.com | See recent Movie Maker news

Film geeks like to show off; it's in their job description. Whether it's debating the merits of Lars von Trier or discussing which Evil Dead film is the true masterpiece, it's just what they do. Well, thanks to entrepreneur Mike Ford, what they do has just gotten a bit easier to show off. Ford's UK-based company, Last Exit to Nowhere, sells T-shirts based on fictional companies and locations from films. And although the movies represented tend to skew a bit toward cult favorites (designs include the Winchester Tavern from Shaun of the Dead, the Urban Achievers from The Big Lebowski and Jaws' Amity Island), Ford says this was not deliberate.
